Top Trends in Security Vendor Consolidation

Don’t Wait for Your Various Security Software to Consolidate

Consolidation is not a new word when it comes to security vendors.

As companies grow, needs change, and new technologies develop, different vendors merging has become a common sight. Gartner has been tracking these consolidation trends, and what those trends highlight is two things:

  1. Organizations need to pay attention to these consolidations
  2. XDR solutions, like Arctic Wolf, already offer what other companies are trying to create through consolidation

Consolidations Are Increasing, But It’s Not All Smooth Sailing

Gartner notes five major trends around security consolidation, but there are two insights that are most important to look at.

  1. Consolidation takes time. According to Gartner, the market is “always consolidating, but never consolidated.” If your organization is looking at certain software because of consolidation, note that that consolidation may not be complete, and may involve years of changes that could affect your business needs and security journey.
  2. Consolidation creates uncertainty. Not every software plays nice together, so when technologies combine, it isn’t always a smooth process. In fact, Gartner noted that consolidation does not always increase security posture. 24% of vendors saw a reduction in security posture as a result of the strategy.

These two insights are important to note because, when it comes to increasing cybersecurity posture and implementing strong security architecture, organizations don’t have time to spend navigating complications and uncertainty.

Many organizations are struggling to retain cyber talent and budget, not to mention the issues of alert fatigue and technology complexity already impacting existing teams. Cybersecurity effectiveness can’t be solved by purchasing more software, even if that software is consolidated under a single vendor.

How Arctic Wolf Presents a Streamlined Approach for Your Cybersecurity Set Up

Gartner noted that XDR solutions, like Arctic Wolf®, are ripe for consolidation. It makes sense, because a solution like Arctic Wolf accomplishes through a single vendor what many technologies attempt to achieve through consolidation. There are a few reasons for this effectiveness:

  • Arctic Wolf creates a single pane of glass for organizations to view their various technologies through. This allows for a holistic, high-level approach to security for better threat detection and a stronger ability to create a solid improvement plan to fix vulnerabilities and increase security maturity.

  •  Not all technologies play nice with each other, a problem that consolidation is often working to fix. But Arctic Wolf is vendor neutral, meaning we work with many vendors and technologies. Instead of waiting for your organization’s two (or multiple) technologies to consolidate and work better together, Arctic Wolf takes care of that problem instantly. This creates better workflow integration, fast onboarding, and effective managed detection and remediation.

  • Alert fatigue and technological complexity are two drivers of consolidation. But with Arctic Wolf’s Concierge Security® model, those problems are solved by our team of experts. With a combination of human skill and machine learning, we handle alerts, organize threats, and manage technologies to keep your business secure and your IT team focused on what matters.

Consolidation will certainly continue as new technologies enter the market and legacy companies look to innovate, so it’s something that any organization that utilizes cybersecurity tools should pay attention to. These organizations should also remember that every security journey is unique, and they should make cybersecurity decisions based on what works for their business and security needs, not based on a vendor’s consolidation or lack thereof.
