Arctic Wolf is proud to honor this year’s Black History Month with a company-wide theme of Perseverance, designed to honor the triumphs, contributions, and achievements of the Black community around the world, and celebrate Black excellence within Arctic Wolf. We’ve planned a series of activities throughout the month of February to honor the achievements of Black people through history while celebrating and amplifying members of Arctic Wolf’s Black Excellence Allyship Movement (BEAM). Today, we’re sharing the insights of Aminet Soyemi, a security operations manager in SOC Tier 1.

Tell us about your background and heritage.

I was born in Ile-Ife, a town in the western part of Nigeria which is predominantly Yoruba speaking.

What is your role at Arctic Wolf? What drew you to the cybersecurity field?

I am a security operations manager in SOC Tier 1. As a computer science graduate, cybersecurity has always been my passion. I’ve always liked the challenges, and the fast-paced, constantly changing threat landscape. I couldn’t bypass an opportunity to be a part of that world.

How have you grown personally and professionally as a member of the Pack?

Personally, being a member of the Pack has opened my eyes to the infinite possibilities and ways I can be of help to other Pack members. Professionally, I have been able to grow both within the Pack as well as outside of it, due to the immense value I’ve acquired by being a Pack member.

How have you experienced the benefits of having a diverse workplace?

Learning about other people’s cultures, backgrounds, and what makes them who they are has broadened my horizon, and it has helped me share my own diverse background with others as well.

What’s one thing your coworkers may not know about you?

I like a good, fun, and loud party but also need to be in bed by 9 p.m. with a book and a glass of wine.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month is an opportunity to learn about history that would normally have been forgotten. It means ways to learn how far we’ve come and what lies ahead of us.

What advice do you have for people looking to break into the cybersecurity industry?

It’s not as easy as all the clickbait people on social media make it look. But dedication, hard work, and learning as you go will go a long way in you having a successful cybersecurity career.
