Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! Our Lobos: Hispanic & Latino Pack Unity Alliance has been celebrating with several initiatives encouraging the sharing of Hispanic and Latino culture and experiences, featuring events highlighting the different foods, sports, stories of national independence, and heritage of our Hispanic and Latino Pack members.

As part of this celebration, we’re sharing the perspectives and insights of various Hispanic Pack members. Today, we’re speaking to Jonathan Hernandez, a Triage Security Engineer and member of the Lobos: Hispanic & Latino Pack Unity Alliance.

Tell us about yourself and your role at Arctic Wolf?

I work as a Triage Security Engineer 2, helping to detect and respond to security issues for clients through our security operations center (SOC). With a strong understanding of different types of cyber threats, I focus on investigating security events and managing incidents in a fast-paced 24×7 environment.

What’s your favorite part about being a member of the Pack?

What I enjoy most about being part of the Pack is knowing that I’m helping to work towards our goal of ending cyber risk. Working together to investigate issues and handle incidents feels really rewarding because we’re making a difference as a team. HOOOOWL!

What do you want your colleagues to take away from Hispanic Heritage month?

I want my colleagues to see how rich and diverse Hispanic cultures are and how they’ve influenced our society. Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of the Hispanic community. It’s also a chance to see why it’s important to include and understand different points of view.

What inspired you to get into cybersecurity?

I have two brothers who work in cybersecurity, and when I was trying to figure out my next career move, they encouraged me to give it a shot. After working in physical security for six years, they sent me Darill Gibson’s Security and Study Guide and told me to check it out. After doing some home labs and listening to a few Dark Net Diaries podcasts, I was hooked. That’s how my journey into cybersecurity started.

What brings you joy outside of the office?

I really enjoy spending time with my blended family, and us doing fun activities together makes me very happy. Fishing is my favorite hobby because it helps me relax and feel at peace while I’m outside. I also love sports and look forward to the weekends when I can watch games, especially the Texas Longhorns and the Houston Astros. These times with my family and my favorite teams mean a lot to me.

Something your colleagues wouldn’t know about you?

I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I’ve read many of the books and comics, and I re-watch the movies all the time. My kids can never beat me at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit, which just adds to the fun.

Finally: What’s your go-to mantra or motto that you take with you in the workplace or throughout life

Cristiano Ronaldo said, “You can’t be afraid. I’ve never been afraid to face things head-on. Sometimes I get it right, and sometimes I don’t, but giving up is something you’ll never hear from me.”
